Highfields Fire Station was opened in February 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal after the closure of Beeston and Dunkirk Fire Stations and is staffed 24/7, 365 days a year by four watches with at least seven firefighters on shift at all times.
Highfields area covers up to the areas North towards Glaisdale Drive Bilborough, east towards Radford Boulevard and the Nottingham Park and Ride, south towards Toton and Nottingham Road, and west towards Bramcote Island and Chilwell.
The station has one fire engine as well as a Specialist Rescue Unit, an Incident Support Unit that provides welfare support to firefighters at large scale and long-running incidents, and a National Water Rescue Boat and a Fuel Bowser.
As one of two technical rescue stations across the county, firefighters from Highfields Fire Station are trained to carry out rope rescues, small and large animal rescues, heavy rescues including HGV's, trains, aircraft, and farm vehicles, shoring to stabilise structures for emergency access following a collapse, and confined space rescues.
Highfields also has command suites which can be used by multiple agencies in larger incidents as well as two large community engagement rooms.
St Johns Ambulance also uses this fire station as their base for their training and community activities, with other community groups also utilising the facilities.
