Retford Fire Station

Location

Wharf Road, Retford, DN22 6EN

About

Retford Fire Station is part of the Service's North Group – which also includes neighbouring stations such as Warsop, Worksop, Harworth, and Misterton. The station, and the staff that works there, serve the communities of Retford and the surrounding areas within the Bassetlaw District.

The fire appliances at Retford Fire Station are equipped to respond to all of the types of incidents to which NFRS responds. Primarily, these include fires and road traffic collisions, but other incidents can be flooding, incidents involving hazardous materials, water rescues, and working at height/rescues from height.

The new station in Retford was built in 2014, on the same site as the original station which was built in the 1950s. It has modern facilities to enable practical and theoretical training for the personnel based there, along with a gym to enable personnel to maintain fitness levels. The practical training facility includes a training building for use by the North Group stations, a large detached house of two stories, which can be modified into two semi-detached properties, along with a training tower of four floors and roof space in the house containing confined space rat run. Built behind the house is a sewer, to enable simulated rescues of this nature.

Personnel routinely engage with the community to raise awareness of safety. Most often this is through visiting members of the public in their homes to carry out a Home Safety Check and deliver fire safety advice relevant to their personal circumstances. Personnel also attends community events, fetes, or participate with local schools and community groups, engaging to educate and raise awareness of fire safety and community safety issues with the public. Other specific areas include road safety and water safety.

The retained staff at Retford meet once a week to carry out a variety of training to ensure they are ready should they ever be needed.
