Benefits of working for us

Health and Wellbeing Support

We provide our employees with a wide range of Health and Wellbeing support. This is supported by our occupational health department as well as our employee cashback scheme and our employee assistance provider (EAP) which provides our employees with 24/7 support.

All roles can access our Flexible Working Policy from day one of employment. We are open to considering different working patterns which can help us provide a better service to our community while supporting you with your home life. Most of our non-operational/support roles are also open to agile working, which provides employees with the ability to mix office and home working. Additionally, we have flexible duty and flexible time schemes which allow employees to be more flexible over start and finish times.

Annual Leave

Non-operational/support employees are given 27 annual leave days per year plus bank holidays, as well as an additional Christmas concessionary day. Annual leave increases depending on your years of service and your job grade.

Wholetime Firefighters are given 408 hours per year of annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) which is 34 days of annual leave (based on 12-hour days). After 5 years this increases to 444 hours.

We provide all our employees with opportunities for both formal and informal professional development opportunities which help to advance your career.

You have access to a public sector defined benefit pension scheme. Wholetime and retained employees will be automatically enrolled into the Firefighter Pension Scheme and Non-operational/support employees will be automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
