About

Our Training Centre is based at the Service Development Centre (SDC) in Ollerton. Here, a team of staff is responsible for delivering high quality and structured training to all our staff.

They provide a full programme of operational training ranging from the initial training for all new firefighters, through to refresher training and advanced training in areas such as technical rescue.

To help staff deliver this high-quality training, there is a wide range of equipment and facilities available at SDC. Each of the training rooms has smart displays, big screen projection and internet access, while the Centre also has a fire training building that has three floors and underground sewers. This building, known commonly as the 'fire house', can be filled with hot smoke and fire, allowing firefighters to train in realistic scenarios in excess of 200 degrees centigrade.

As well as helping staff hone their operational skills, the Centre also plays host to a range of other courses that help staff develop skills in areas such as management and leadership techniques, equality and diversity, time, stress and conflict management for firefighters and support staff.

A number of SDC staff are also based in a purpose-built Incident Command Training Suite at Mansfield Fire Station – where they deliver training to incident commanders of the future and also test present incident commanders to ensure their skills and competencies are up to date.

Service Driving School

We also have a number of Advanced Driving Instructors based at Highfields Fire Station. From here they provide extensive driver training in a range of vehicles – from forklifts to fire engines. Several of our courses are accredited by the Institute of Advanced Motorists and our Driver Trainers also provide 'blue light' training to operational staff.
