Working with partners to keep people safe on a Mansfield estate

A day of action was held on Monday 23 January as part of a campaign to reduce keep people safe on a Mansfield estate.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service joined partners from Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Fire crews from Mansfield, Ashfield and Warsop spent the day speaking to residents about fire safety and had the opportunity to show pupils from Oak Tree Primary School around a fire engine.

Fire service staff knocked on 214 homes on the estate to check residents had working smoke alarms and to look for any other vulnerabilities or fire risk concerns within people’s houses.

The day was part of a Safer Streets initiative by the Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry who provided funding for the day.

Tracey Straw, District Prevention Officer for Mansfield at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were really pleased to join partners on the day of action and thank you to everyone who welcomed us into their homes to talk more about how they can keep themselves safe from fire.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry said: “I am always impressed to see the proactive work that Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service do to protect the most vulnerable in our communities with their Safe & Well checks.
