Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service Declares Major Incident

The major incident we declared yesterday, due to a period of sustained, increased demand across Nottinghamshire, has now been rescinded. 

Huge thanks to colleagues at South Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Lancashire and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service's who supported us in dealing with the large volume of challenging incidents, enabling us to resolve them quicker. 

Thanks also to our fantastic firefighters who have been working tirelessly in hot conditions, like many across the country, for some weeks now, as well as our Joint Control Room staff over in Derbyshire. 

Please continue to help us help you by taking your litter home, being careful when discarding cigarettes and packing a picnic, not a BBQ.

As of 1:30pm on Sunday 9 August 2026, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident. This relates to the cumulative impact of multiple incidents placing significant pressure on operational resources, rather than a single incident in isolation.

The Service is currently operating with very limited resources and reduced pump availability. As a result, response times to any further incidents are likely to be delayed.

Still call 999 in an emergency.

We would like to remind people not to light any fires, such as campfires or BBQs, and to take extra care when disposing of cigarettes due to the incredibly dry conditions, as a spark could spread quickly.
