Scrap Metal Fire, Radford Road, Nottingham

Update - 1:30pm Thursday 9 July

We can now confirm that the fire on Radford Road, Basford, has been dealt with. Our crews have left the scene and all roads in the area have reopened.

We would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we responded to the incident.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all our firefighters involved in dealing with this incident.

Following a joint fire and police investigation earlier today it has been confirmed that the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery.

Update - 9:00am Thursday 9 July

Our crews worked throughout the night and will remain at the scene until later today, with a reduced presence.

Once operations are complete, the site will be handed over for a joint Fire and Police investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Please be aware that partial road closures remain in place.

Update - 4:30pm

Two fire engines and an aerial ladder platform remain at the scene on Radford Road in Nottingham, where crews continue to tackle the fire.

Radford Road remains closed between Northgate and Eland Street while operations are ongoing.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for several more hours as they work to fully extinguish the fire.

Crews continue to work hard at the scrap metal fire on Radford Road, in Nottingham. We continue to urge local residents to keep their doors and windows closed and for people to avoid the area.

Six fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms and a water carrier are currently being used to extinguish a fire at a scrap metal facility on Radford Road, Nottingham.

We ask all local residents and businesses to keep their doors and windows closed, and for the public to avoid the area.

Fire - 10:30am

We're currently in attendance at a scrapyard fire on Radford Road, Basford. The call came in at 10.31am.

We've got six fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform in attendance and understand there is a large smoke plume.

Please close doors and windows if you live or work locally.

Importantly, please avoid the area - this is an emergency incident and it's important our crews have space to work and access the site.
