Service Unveils Specially-Wrapped Appliance For 50th Birthday

Posted on 04 October 2024

Nottinghamshire's fire service has officially unveiled a one-time-only gold fire engine to celebrate its 50th birthday.

The appliance features a brand-new new design that incorporates a special birthday logo and includes smoke alarm safety messaging, within a gold theme, to mark 50 years of serving Nottinghamshire’s communities.

It will be based at London Road Fire Station for the foreseeable, and made its ‘public debut’ at Stapleford Fire Station’s Open Day on Saturday 28 September.

Officially, it has been 77 years since The City of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Fire Brigades were created under The Fire Services Act 1947.

However, these two separate entities were merged 50 years ago, in 1974, which is when Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service was created.

The launch of our 50th birthday celebrations and gold appliance tied in with the publication of the service's latest HMICFRS report, which saw it graded as good in 10 out of 11 inspection areas.

"To be celebrating 50 years of serving our communities is an amazing milestone and one that we're really proud of," said Group Manager Daniel Palmer, who works within the service's strategic support team.

"Many things have changed over the last five decades but one thing has remained the same - our purpose of making people safer across Nottinghamshire.

"Wrapping this appliance is a small gesture but one that hopefully reminds residents that we are here if ever we need them. The wrapping also features some smoke alarm safey messaging, too, which reflects our commitment to preventing incidents before they occur."
