NFRS welcomes His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.

Posted on 06 March 2024

This week, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) began their latest inspection of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. They will be in the Service for the next seven weeks.

All fire and rescue services are subject to inspection from HMICFRS. The aims of the inspection programme are to encourage improvement in the fire sector and to provide the public with accessible information about how their local service is performing.

NFRS was first inspected in 2018 and again in September 2021. The Service was given areas of improvement to act upon, to deliver further service improvements. Any past and future recommendations to improve are built into the organisation’s business plans.

HMICFRS will inspect Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service across three broad areas. These are: how they provide key services to their communities, how well they use their resources to manage risk and how well they manage their finances, and how well they look after their people.

In their last inspection, HMICFRS rated Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service as ‘Good’ in all areas, with HMICFRS stating ‘clear improvements’ have been made since the last inspection in 2018/19.

Chief Fire Officer, Craig Parkin, said "We welcome the inspection process, and we are looking forwarding to showing inspectors all the work we have done over the last couple of years.

“We are expecting to receive our final report around August 2024. This will be available to review on the HMICFRS website. We will also promote this our website and social media channels.”
