More places open on wholetime firefighter Recruitment Days

We have opened more availability on our wholetime firefighter Recruitment Days.

You must attend a Recruitment Day event if you want to apply and only need to attend one event. All our Recruitment days can be found on our Eventbrite page.

We’ve put together a short video with Watch Manager Sonny Roberts that explains the process.

Nottinghamshire on-call and Armed Forces candidates

If you are a Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service on-call firefighter or meet the Armed Forces selection criteria and are unable to attend a Recruitment Day (due to reasons such as currently being serving members of the Armed Forces or live out of county, for example); please contact Human Resources on humanresources@notts-fire.gov.uk.

Timeline

1. Recruitment Days

Candidates who meet the selection criteria are required to attend one Recruitment Day. Candidates can book themselves onto a recruitment day on Eventbrite from 20 September 2023.

The recruitment day will consist of:

  • Presentation from the Service about the role
  • Fitness test (bleep test) Candidates who achieve the required standard 8.7 (42 V02 max) level will be sent a link to the application form.
  • Varied job related tests

2. Telephone sift

Week commencing 20 November 2023

All candidates successful at the recruitment days or who have registered their interest will be required to undertake a telephone sifting process including On Call applicants. This process will be conducted by Futures and further information will follow.

3. Job related tests

Dates: 4 December 2023 to 15 December 2023 (Monday - Friday)

Venue: Service Development Centre, Dukeries Complex, Main Road, Boughton, NG22 9JE

All candidates who are successful through the fitness test and the initial telephone sift will be invited to the job related tests.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service on-call candidates will not be expected to complete this assessment.

4. Interview and presentation

Dates: 15 January 2024 to 9 February 2024 (Monday - Friday)

Venue: Antenna, 9A Beck St, Nottingham NG1 1EQ.

Candidates successful through the job related test stage will be invited to an interview and presentation.

5. Medicals

Dates: Weeks commencing 19 and 26 February 2024.

Venue: Nottinghamshire Police and Fire and Rescue Service Joint Headquarters, Sherwood Lodge Drive, Nottingham NG5 8PP.

6. Swimming

Dates and venue to be confirmed.

7. Kit fitting

Dates: Weeks commencing 19 and 26 February 2024.

Venue: Highfields Fire Station, Hassocks Lane, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 2GQ

8. Pre-employment checks

  • Baseline personnel security standard check (BPSS)
  • Standard disclosure and barring check
  • Personal check (one reference from most recent employer)
  • Check on eligibility to work in UK

9. 1st training course

Date: 22 April 2024

Venue: Service Development Centre, Dukeries Complex, Main Road, Boughton, NG22 9JE

Candidates who are successful through the medical, swimming assessment and the pre-employment checks will be required to be available for the start date of this course.

This will be a 13-week course held at the Service’s Training and Development Centre in Ollerton. You must be able to travel to the training centre as a requirement of your appointment.

10. 2nd training course

Date: 16 September 2024

Venue: Service Development Centre, Dukeries Complex, Main Road, Boughton, NG22 9JE

Candidates identified for this course will undertake medicals, swimming assessment and pre-employment checks at a future date.

As stated above this will be a 13-week course held at the Service’s Training and Development Centre in Ollerton. You must be able to travel to the training centre as a requirement of your appointment.
