Money raised in Collingham following fatal house fire five years ago

On Sunday 3 March, On-Call Firefighters from Collingham Fire Station visited their local football and sports club as a thank you for recent fundraising event. 

Collingham Football and Sports Club held a charity darts competition last month, raising £1,750 for The Fire Fighters Charity. 

This charity event has been held for the past four years, as a way to mark the very serious and sad incident we attended in 2018, where a mother and her two children were killed in a house fire caused by an electrical fault.

Since this incident, the local community have been on a mission to raise as much as they can for The Fire Fighters Charity, as a thank you for the work they do to keep their local community safe. 

Firefighters, football players, family and friends got together at the sports club to formally present the money to The Fire Fighters Charity.

Wayne Brooks, Watch Manager at Collingham Fire Station, said: "This amount of money raised is an amazing achievements, and the efforts you go to don't go unnoticed. 

"We want to thank every single one of you for this donation, it really will help the charity support us and our families."

Charlotte Smith, East Midlands Community Fundraiser for The Fire Fighters Charity, said: "We always rely on our Firefighters to be the first people on scene when we need them, so our job is to support them in their time of need, whether that is physically, socially or emotionally.

"Last year, donations like this one enabled the charity to support over 10,000 people within the UK fire community to lead happier and healthier lives.
