Male Staff Encourage Women To Join The Fire Service On International Women's Day
Posted on 08 March 2025
On International Women's Day, men across Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service take a stand to encourage more women to consider joining the Service - particularly in firefighting roles.
NFRS has launched a campaign, which is led by men, encouraging more women to pursue careers in the fire service.
Male firefighters have joined the initiative by actively advocating for a more diverse workforce and offering encouragement and support for those women considering a career with us.
On International Women's Day (Saturday 8 March) we want to send a clear message: Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is for everyone.
Andy Macey, Head of Response, said: "The work we do is physically and emotionally demanding, but it’s also incredibly fulfilling. We need the best people, regardless of gender, to help us protect and serve our communities. Men across our service are giving advice to women who are considering joining us, because women bring invaluable perspectives and skills to the table.
"It’s important to me that we have a team that reflects the community we serve. Women in firefighting roles bring a unique strength to the team, and it’s exciting to see more and more women stepping up to join the service. We all have a role to play in breaking down the stereotypes and encouraging diversity. I’m proud to stand beside my female colleagues and encourage other women to consider this career."
If becoming a firefighter is something you're interested in then please register your interest. We will be recruiting for on-call firefighters very soon.
