Three boys arrested after car set alight

Police officers have arrested three suspects after being alerted to a car and bin being set on fire.
Patrolling officers in the Worksop area discovered a car had been set alight on Hardwick Road West, Worksop, shortly before 3am on Sunday 22 October.
Alerting Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, the team was then made aware a bin had also been set alight on Howards Street, just after 12.30am.
Both fires were extinguished and while at the scene, officers spotted three suspects who were immediately arrested.
Three boys aged 12, 15, and 17-years-old were all arrested on suspicion of arson.
All three have been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Inspector Hayley Crawford, District Commander for Bassetlaw, said: “Setting deliberate fires can lead to utterly catastrophic consequences.
“We’re working alongside our fire colleagues and are carrying out a full investigation and are out in the community speaking to residents and searching through CCTV.
“I want to reassure my community we’re taking these reports extremely seriously and I have increased high visibility patrols throughout the Worksop area.
“If you have any information that could help with our investigation, I want to ask you to come forward – arsons not only destroy property but puts people’s lives at risk, so if you know something please come forward.”
Simon Cookson, District Prevention Officer at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “One car has been severely damaged by fire from this incident, however next time it could be a whole lot worse – setting fires deliberately can pose a risk to life as well as property and the environment.
“It is unacceptable for anybody to set a fire deliberately, and emergency service personnel will be in the local area in hopes to prevent these from happening again.
“Parents, please know where your children are at all times, especially during half term. Please educate them on the dangers of setting fires deliberately, and discuss the consequences that come with it.”
