Service Sets Out Three-Year Plan For Protecting Nottinghamshire Communities
Posted on 01 April 2025
Fire officers in Nottinghamshire have set out a clear and comprehensive plan that outlines how they intend to keep people safe over the next three years.
Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Community Risk Management Plan, which runs from 2025 to 2028, has been published today (Tuesday 1 April) after a robust, nine-week consultation period.
The document, which the service is required by law to produce, outlines six priority areas that firefighters and corporate staff will work to on a daily basis.
These areas, which are the organisation’s strategic goals, have been given overwhelming support by staff and the public through a record-breaking consultation and engagement exercise which was launched in October 2024.
After the consultation closed, senior officers took on board the feedback given and finalised their plans to deliver both its purpose – creating safer communities across Nottinghamshire – and ambition – to be an outstanding fire service by 2032 – during the coming years.
Leading the work to produce and publish this plan, Area Manager Matt Reavill, the service’s head of Corporate Support, said he is delighted to be finally sharing the document with members of the public, after months of hard work.
“What we hope people will take from it is the confidence that their local fire service has done a huge amount of analysis into the risks that our communities face on a daily basis,” he added.
“We’ve then taken this analysis and aligned our resources and plans to ensure we are mitigating these risks, as much as we possibly can, over the next three years.
“Everything we do is about keeping people safe and I’d like to thank those who took the time to have their say through our consultation process. Your views were invaluable.”
The six strategic goals outlined in the plan are as follows:
- Prevention – We aim to stop fires and other emergencies before they happen by educating people about risks and supporting those most vulnerable. From school visits to home safety checks, our work focuses on reducing harm before it occurs.
- Protection – We work with businesses and building owners to ensure properties are safe and meet fire safety regulations. By carrying out inspections and offering advice, we help to protect workplaces, public spaces, and homes from fire risks.
- Response – When emergencies happen, we are ready to respond quickly and effectively. Whether it’s tackling fires, rescuing people from road traffic collisions, or dealing with floods, our crews are trained to handle a wide range of incidents.
- Workforce – Our staff are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to training, developing, and supporting our teams to ensure they have the skills and resources needed to keep communities safe.
- Service Improvement – We are always looking for ways to be better. By listening to feedback, using the latest technology, and learning from every incident, we strive to provide the best possible service to the people of Nottinghamshire.
- Sustainability – We recognise the importance of reducing our environmental impact. From using greener vehicles to making our buildings more energy efficient, we are taking steps to ensure we operate in a way that protects the planet for the future. This is about financial sustainability, too, and having the infrastructure, equipment and resources to maintain a service fit for the future.
More information on these priority areas, and the work that the service intends to do over the next three years, can be found in the plan, which is hosted on the service’s website.
