Fire Service Opens Applications For On-Call Firefighter Roles

Posted on 19 January 2026

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has opened applications for on-call firefighters today (Monday 19 January 2026), where members of its community can apply if they live or work within five minutes to one of our 16 on-call fire stations.

Our amazing on-call firefighters around the county provide hours worth of availability each week, giving 24/7 emergency cover, all whilst fitting their on-call firefighting role around other commitments including primary employment and family life.

On-call firefighters are paid to respond to emergencies, whatever time of the day, and are notified by a personal pager which is carried with them whenever on duty - they must then be able to respond to their local fire station within minutes to be able to attend incidents and ultimately, help the communities of Nottinghamshire. They're also paid to train each week, and when required, carry out work within their local community.

This role is open to anyone who lives or works within close proximity to an on-call fire station: Ashfield, Bingham, Blidworth, Collingham, East Leake, Eastwood, Harworth, Hucknall, Misterton, Newark, Retford, Southwell, Stapleford, Tuxford, Warsop and Worksop.

The application window is only open for two weeks - ensure your application is submitted before Sunday 1 February 2026.

If you're interested in this role, then please visit your local fire station - they'll be able to give you an insight into the role and answer any questions you may have.
