Statement Following Evacuation Of Cranbrook House, Nottingham

Due to a major water leak across three floors of Cranbrook House, Nottingham, which has significantly compromised the fire safety of the building, Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (NFRS), in conjunction with Local Resilience Forum partner organisations, took the difficult decision overnight to advise an immediate evacuation of residents.

This is not something that is done lightly but the safety of residents and wider communities in Nottingham will always be the priority for all organisations involved. We can confirm that a total of 60 people were evacuated.

Residents who were unable to stay with family or friends spent the night at St Mary’s Church, and we thank staff there for their help at short notice. Nottingham City Council officers and members of the British Red Cross were also there to provide blankets and hot drinks, as well as advice and support.

As of this morning (Saturday 19 September), Nottingham City Council is currently supporting around 20 residents to find temporary accommodation for tonight, should it be required.

Experienced and highly qualified fire officers from NFRS are working closely with the building’s management to rectify the issues and get residents back in their homes as soon as possible.

Both Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Nottingham City Council will continue to work closely with partner organisations to ensure this is resolved as quickly as possible. Both organisations thank partners for their ongoing support, as well as members of the local community and residents that are affected by the issue.
