Winter safety

As the months get colder our behaviours may change. Electrical safety should be considered around electric blanket use and portable heaters in the home. Please ensure that cables are not frayed and that electrical sockets are not overloaded. Outdoors making sure tyres on vehicles have sufficient thread and windows are cleared fully prior to driving are essential tasks. For those walking pets in the icy weather a reminder not to venture out onto ice-covered waterways to rescue animals.

Keeping warm may mean the use of wheat bags, lighting solid fuel fires and lighting candles to create a cosy atmosphere. Please see our safety advice for all of these separately.

Over the festive period, you might plug in strings of fairy lights that have been packed away for 12 months. Please check that cables and plugs are in good working order and that sockets are not overloaded.
