NFRS 2021 85 - Emergency calls made by students

You asked for:

  1. Emergency calls made by students
    1. The number of times fire/rescue services in your region were called by a university student since the beginning of September 2020.
    2. The number of times fire/rescue services in your region were called by a university student between the beginning of September 2019 and the end of February 2020.

I’m sorry, but most calls are made from mobile phones, so we don’t know if they’re registered to a student. Also, we don’t ask emergency callers if they are students or not.

  2. Where emergency fire and rescue services attended scenes:
    1. The number of times fire/rescue services in your region attended a university student’s accommodation (including private property, such as student houses) since the beginning of September 2020.
    2. The number of times fire/rescue services in your region attended a university student’s accommodation (including private property, such as student houses) between September 2019 and the end of February 2020.
    3. The number of injuries (broken down into categories where the patient was attended to at a scene, where the patient was sent to hospital, and deaths) from such incidents since the beginning of September.
    4. The number of injuries (broken down into categories where the patient was attended to at a scene, where the patient was sent to hospital, and deaths) from such incidents between the beginning of September 2019 and the end of February 2020.

We can only distinguish data for incidents recorded at purpose built student flats. Our incident recording system doesn’t record private property specifically used as student houses.

    Student flats attended 01 Sep 2020 – 28 Feb 2022: 379. Of which 17 were fires.

Broken down into 6 month periods:

    1. Sep 2020 – Feb 2021: 83. Of which 2 were fires
    2. Mar 2020 – Aug 2021: 87. Of which 6 were fires
    3. Sep 2021 – Feb 2022: 209. Of which 9 were fires

    Student flats attended 01 Sep 2019 – 28 Feb 2020: 102. Of which 5 were fires.

There have been no recorded casualties as a result of these fires recorded at purpose built student flats.

    1. The number of times fire/rescue services in your region were called by the general population since the beginning of September 2020

I’m sorry, but we can’t report on calls as we share our Fire Control call centre with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, and, for example, if a call if clearly a hoax, the specific location of the incident (and if Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire area) wouldn’t be determined.
