Water rescue on the River Poulter

Posted on 16 March 2024

Yesterday evening (Friday 15 March) crews from across the county were called to the River Poulter due to reports of a teenage girl who had gone missing in the water.

Following a search of the river we successfully managed to locate the missing girl and bring her to safety.

Four appliances and two specialist rescue teams were mobilised to the incident from Worksop, Edwinstowe, Newark, and Highfields. We were also assisted by the East Midlands Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team and Nottinghamshire Police.

Area Manager Tom Archer said, “I would like to recognise the hard work and professionalism of our staff and that of our blue light colleagues.

“Thanks to their quick deployment we located the casualty and EMAS HART were able to treat able to treat immediately meaning the incident was resolved with a positive outcome.

“Open water can be very inviting to swim in but can come with dangers such as strong currents and hazards just below the water. I would encourage everyone to be aware of the dangers before they enter the water and to follow the local signs. More information on water safety can also be found on our website”
