Support for EMAS comes to an end
Posted on 02 December 2021
A second group of staff has been assisting East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) for around 20 weeks, which has now come to an end.
The firefighters have been assisting EMAS with typical tasks such as driving urgent care ambulances, carrying out patient observations, administering first aid, and supporting their EMAS colleagues in ensuring patients receive the care they need at home or on their way to hospital.
In total, all volunteers since the start of April 2020 have completed 495 12-hour shifts and transported over 1,660 urgent care patients.
We now have no staff detached to support partner organisations but feel extremely proud to have been able to assist them as much as we could during these difficult times.
On-Call Firefighter, Jessica Walker, is amongst those who have been supporting EMAS. Jess said: "I'm proud to have been able to work with EMAS, supporting the Urgent Care Service, and to make a real contribution to patient care.
"I was made very welcome and have learnt a lot, hoping to take experiences and elements to my work as an On-Call Firefighter at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
"It was good to see how multi-agency organisations work together to benefit our communities.
"I'd like to thank all EMAS colleagues for their support during my time with them."
