NFRS Recognise RWE For Outstanding Support For On-Call Firefighters

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has presented RWE with an ‘Outstanding Support for On-Call Firefighters’ Award, recognising the company’s exceptional commitment to enabling its employees to serve their communities. The award was presented on Monday (16 March) by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Damien West.
RWE – a leading multinational energy company, generating and supplying electricity from a wide range of sources and based at Staythorpe in Nottinghamshire - was nominated for its ongoing support of Nottinghamshire’s on-call firefighters. Their ability to respond to daytime emergency incidents have been made possible thanks to RWE’s flexibility and commitment to supporting local communities.
This arrangement is part of a wider culture within RWE – they offer similar support to on-call firefighters in other fire and rescue services across the UK, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to public service, proving it’s not just limited to Nottinghamshire employees.
A representative from RWE said: “We continue to support our employees and local communities, allowing them to do amazing things outside of work, such as becoming an on-call firefighter, joining the Army Reserves, and taking volunteer days.”
ACFO Damien West added: “Employers like RWE make a remarkable difference to the safety and resilience of our communities. By giving staff the flexibility to serve as on-call firefighters, they help ensure we can respond quickly to incidents when our communities need us most.
“This award given to RWE is recognition as a thank you from everyone at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service – without their support, and also the support from other businesses across our county, we would not have all the amazing on-call firefighters that we currently do have.”
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service encourages other employers across Nottinghamshire to explore how they can support on-call firefighters and their local communities – whether through flexible working, remote-working arrangements, or release for emergency callouts. More information for employers is available on the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service website.
The Service is always looking for new on-call firefighters and anyone interested in opportunities should also take a look at our website, here.
