Pass out for Pythian Club members
Posted on 15 July 2022
After six weeks of dedication and commitment, five members of the Pythian Club have now passed out as 'young firefighters'.
This initiative with the Pythian Club was developed by a Firefighter at Stockhill Fire Station and supported by the Watch Manager. The aim was to strengthen community relationships and facilitate activities for young people that allowed them to experience and live the values of our Service through being on station.
The Prevention Education Team supported in the delivery of this partnership as well as having support from the EDI team.
The club had an opportunity to have a tour of the station, fire engine and fire kit, as well as learning and taking part in hose running, RTC extraction demonstrations, water rescue demonstrations and first aid. In their final week they performed a drill for family and friends which included arriving at the scene, applying water, a snatch rescue and a CPR demonstration on a casualty.
Natasha Neale, Youth Engagement Officer at NFRS, said: "Working together, we have been able to offer a beneficial opportunity to young people in one of our areas, and there is hope that we are able to roll this out in other areas of risk around Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
"The club have shown that they can be a professional part of the team and behave in ways that demonstrate their commitment to achieving and developing skills, their communication and team working practices and coming together as one team throughout the six-week programme.
"The five individuals have been dedicated and committed in their attendance and we hope they will become community ambassadors helping us to work towards our goal of creating safer communities."
The Pythian Club said: "We would like to say a big thank you to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for supporting our young people and providing an excellent opportunity for them to build their future aspirations."
