Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service receives positive staff survey results
Posted on 12 September 2024
This week we shared with staff the results of our 2024 Staff Survey, where an amazing 68% of people responded, a 5% increase from the last survey in 2022.
In fact, almost every aspect of this survey improves upon 2022.
The survey took place from 3 June to 14 July, and questions focused on aspects of the work environment that the organisation can influence (the “perceived environment”), and how staff feel.
According to the survey, 85.5% staff feel like they have strong working relationships, and 83% intend to stay for NFRS for the next six months.
88% people feel like they work well together in their team to get things done, with 84.7% feeling trusted to do their job.
In terms of wellbeing, 84.5% say they can count on colleagues for emotional support if needed. 82.3% feel welcomed and included at work, and 81.4% find their work meaningful.
The top four words to describe the culture of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are: “performance-focused”, “respectful”, “inclusive”, and “welcoming”.
As a result, the areas for improvement identified include:
- Focusing on improving systems and processes, particularly where they encourage silos.
- Making sure that leaders are visible and engaging directly with employees.
- Looking for opportunities to promote personal and professional growth, and not just training for the job they’re doing.
Leila Berry, Head of People and Organisational Development (OD) said: “I’d like to thank everyone for taking part in this year’s Staff Survey.
"As we’ve always said, employee feedback is essential to foster a positive NFRS culture, prioritise well-being, uphold our values, and ensure inclusivity in all areas of the Service.
“Led by our Organisational Development team, we’ll use the results to support our ongoing ambitions to create a workplace where everyone can thrive and contribute, so we can better serve our communities.”
