Man dies after light aircraft crash

We were called to the scene of a light aircraft crash in a crop field in Darlton at 12.23pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 July).

East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Police were also called to the incident.

One person, a man aged in his 70s, sadly died in the crash. His family are being supported by specially trained Police officers.

There was not believed to be anyone else on board the aircraft.

A full investigation is underway led by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

Area Manager Bryn Coleman said “it is with our deepest regrets that we can confirm the pilot, a man in his 70s, died on scene. There were no other injuries.

“Our heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends of the individual, and all those affected.

“We have been working with partners to make the scene safe.”

Fire engines remained on scene overnight to assist partner agencies.
