Investigation into fatal fire in Newark continues

​The joint investigation continues into the house fire at Eton Court, Newark, where a woman has now sadly died from her injuries.

We were called to the incident at 1.27 am on Wednesday 15 December, where crews found an established fire.

Three fire engines from Newark and Collingham stations attended. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire and rescue the casualty, before working with East Midlands Ambulance Service colleagues to administer immediate first-aid.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she later passed away.

The joint investigation began on 15 December, where our Fire Investigation team started working with the regional fire dog and our police colleagues to determine the cause of the fire.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service Area Manager, Damien West, said:

"Everyone at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service sends our most sincere condolences to the woman's family, friends, and the local community at this difficult time. 

"My thoughts and thanks are with those who attended and worked so hard to try and save the woman's life.  Crews arrived at the incident within minutes of the 999 call to us and were immediately supported by colleagues from EMAS and Nottinghamshire Police.  Everyone worked incredibly hard to save the woman’s life and we are so sad to learn of her death.

"We recognise that the local community may have been affected by this incident, so we will be in the area on Friday 17 December from 9:30 am to speak with them, offer reassurance and give fire safety advice."
