Derbyshire And Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service Support International Control Room Week
Posted on 27 October 2025
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Services will celebrate the work of its Joint Control Room staff as part of International Control Room Week, taking place from today (Monday 27 October) to Sunday 2 November 2025.
Our control room staff are the unseen frontline of emergency response, playing a vital role in dealing with incidents. They face traumatic and stressful situations daily yet consistently provide calm, clear guidance to our communities when it’s needed most, offering reassurance until firefighters arrive.
This week, both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Services will be attempting to raise public awareness of the life-saving and life-changing work of their Joint Control Room by shining a spotlight on its staff.
Station Manager for Joint Control, Sarah Crannage, said: “Every emergency call is answered by our Joint Control Room staff who tirelessly behind the scenes to support our operational crews and support our communities in their time of need.
“This week is a chance to celebrate their incredible work and highlight how important they are in ensuring operations run as smoothly as possible.”
To mark the occasion, the staff in our Joint Control Room will be taking part in a week-long fundraising challenge in memory of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service's retired Chief Fire Officer Gavin Tomlinson and serving Chief Fire Officer Rob Taylor. Funds raised will support The Fire Fighters Charity and Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Each watch will be undertaking a cycling challenge aiming to collectively cycle 380 miles over the course of the week - the distance between all fire stations in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The week will also feature the return of the annual Joint Control ‘Bake Off’ with a cake sale to raise additional funds for the chosen charities.
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Services will be posting throughout the week on social media, so make sure you stay up to date with everything that's happening.
