Hundreds Of Children Educated At Safety Zone

Around 1,280 year-six school pupils from 17 county schools and nine city schools attended safety zone, which ran for two weeks at Holme Pierrepont Country Park.
Safety zone, which is organised by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's Community and Education Team, involves interactive workshops ran by organisations across the county, which will develop the children's life skills, including a session on CPR from East Midlands Ambulance Service.
As well as the workshop ran by EMAS, Nottinghamshire Police, British Transport Police, RNLI, VIA, and NCT were in attendance. Hope UK also ran a session, informing the children on the dangers of drink and drugs.
The fire safety workshop was split into two halves - one half was in the community outreach vehicle and one half was in the 'risky room', and the children had to identify all of the fire hazards that were presented to them.
Across the two weeks, the children gained valuable information that they can take with them as they grow older, in order to keep themselves and their families safe.
97.3% of teachers that attended this years' safety zone with their students, felt that children are better equipped to keep themselves and others safe.
Mrs Ince, a year-six teacher at Southwark Primary School, said: "Safety zone is a great experience for all children, and I would like to thank Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for hosting the series of events.
"All of the sessions were taught in an age appropriate way, giving the children valuable life experience that they can use in the future if they are to ever need it."
Craig Cooper, Community Engagement and Education Manager, said: "Once again, safety zone was a huge success! Not only do we get to engage with the many schools that come through during the two weeks, but we get to work closely with our partner agencies to ensure we create safer communities."
