Barn fire on Greaves Lane, Edingley

Posted on 07 June 2023

At around 5pm on Tuesday 6 June, we were called to a barn fire on Greaves Lane, Edingley, near Southwell.

By 6pm there were eight fire engines in attendance, including Blidworth, Edwinstowe, Arnold, Carlton, Ashfield, Newark, West Bridgford, Hucknall, Worksop's water bowser, Mansfield's command support vehicle, and Stockhill's Environmental Protection Unit. Two medium sized barns were on fire.

By 8pm, the fire was extinguished, but Carlton and Newark fire crews remained on scene to dampen down, and monitor for the next few hours. Crews remained on the scene overnight to monitor, and by the morning of Wednesday 7 June they left. The cause of the fire was found to be a bonfire left unattended, that grew out of control.

Station Manager Simon Glew, said "due to dry weather, please be aware that any outdoor fires you might have can get out of control very quickly. If you see a fire, call 999 immediately."
