Firefighters win medals in Wales
Posted on 19 June 2023
Serving and retired firefighters from across Britain gathered in Swansea on Saturday, 3 June, to compete in this year’s Welsh Firefighter Challenge. Nottinghamshire firefighters won four medals.
The Welsh challenge is a regional event for the British Firefighter Challenge which is a great warm up for the National competition (which our Nottinghamshire Team are also attending).
This was Swansea's second time holding the competition, and it was a massive success.
Taking on a series of physical challenges, all of which are designed to showcase skills and strength, around 100 competitors put on a show for their spectators with runs, a hose carry, a dummy drag, a container carry and more.
The event also held stands for recruiting, fire safety in the home, water and road safety, had other working partners there engaging with their community as well as a day’s entertainment for the general public.
Five serving and retired Nottinghamshire firefighters competed, winning four medals in their age categories:
Crew Manager Christopher Trendowicz, age 40-44 - Silver
Firefighter Dannielle Bailey, age 30-34 - Silver
Firefighter Mary Amos, age 30-34 - Bronze (her first competition)
Retired Station Manager Martin Molloy, over 50’s - Silver
And Firefighter Graham Lintern, just missing out on a bronze in age 45-49.
Congratulations to them all!
The event also managed to raise £2000 in entry registrations and £747 on the day, all of which is being donated to The Fire Fighters Charity to fund their life-changing services.
