Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has been selected by Build-A-Bear Foundation to receive 200 charity bears, to donate to a local women’s refuge.
Over the last year, the Fire Service has been collecting textiles and toiletries for Midlands Women’s Aid. The donations have been taken to the refuge by representatives from Highfields Fire Station, in Beeston.
Midlands Women’s Aid works to support women living in the Nottinghamshire Borough of Broxtowe who are experiencing domestic abuse. The 200 Build-A-Bear furry friends will also be dropped off at the refuge, to be given to children when they arrive with their Mums.
Sarah Sheil, Donation Coordinator between Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Midlands Women’s Aid said “Thank you to Build-A-Bear for selecting us to receive the bears. Highfields Fire Station and the Fire Service’s Women’s Network are proud to support such an important cause, and we’ve been amazed by everyone’s generosity.
“Each teddy bear will hopefully brighten a child’s day, providing some comfort and consistency during an unsettling and scary time in their lives.”
