Fire Authority approves Core Code of Ethics

Posted on 28 September 2021

Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire and Rescue Authority endorsed the implementation of the national Core Code of Ethics for Fire and Rescue Services at its meeting on Friday 24 September.

The Authority also noted Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's work to review its existing employee code of conduct and align it with the Core Code of Ethics.

Launched in May by the Local Government Association, the National Fire Chiefs Council and the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, the Code helps Fire and Rescue Service employees act in the best possible way towards each other and the public.  It should be at the heart of everything they do to make sure communities get the best possible support.

The Code was developed in consultation with the fire and rescue sector in response to the State of Fire Report 2019 (Opens in a new window) and sits alongside the Code of Ethics Fire Standard developed by the Fire Standards Board (Opens in a new window).  The Core Code (Opens in a new window) sets out five ethical principles:

• Putting our communities first

• Integrity

• Dignity and respect

• Leadership

• Equality, diversity and inclusion.
