NFRS & DFRS To Host East Midlands Firefighter Challenge

Posted on 06 March 2026

Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services are proud to be the hosts of the upcoming East Midlands Firefighter Challenge.

On Saturday 12 September 2026, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) will be joining forces to host the country-wide competition in Old Market Square, Nottingham.

This event forms part of a wider national programme of firefighter competition, which recognises performance across all age categories and services, and it welcomes firefighters from fire and rescue services across the UK and beyond, putting their operational skills, strength, and endurance to the test.

Firefighter challenges across the UK are known for pushing competitors to their limits through tasks such as stair climbs, hose drags, casualty rescues and much more – combining physical ability with real firefighting techniques.

As well as showcasing incredible teamwork and capabilities of fire and rescue personnel, the day promises to offer an engaging experience for spectators, who will have the opportunity to cheer on competitors, meet local fire crews, look around appliances and learn more about fire safety.

Chief Fire Officer of NFRS, Craig Parkin DL, said:

We are excited to be working with Derbyshire to bring this year’s East Midlands Firefighter Challenge to Nottingham – it’s a fantastic opportunity to highlight the exceptional skills and dedication of firefighters, while bringing our communities together for a day which is promised to be a fun one.”

Chief Fire Officer of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Michael Sharman, added:

This is another great example of our fire and rescue services working together to support our communities. We look forward to showcasing the strength, skill, and professionalism our crews bring to keep people safe across the East Midlands."
