A look back on 2022

2022 has been another busy year for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, and there has been lots we have achieved and are proud of. Here are just some of the highlights from each month:
January
On 31 January we attended a recycling plant fire in the Lenton.
At the height of the incident we had over 12 appliances including three aerial ladder platforms (ALPs) and a high-volume pump.

February
For LGBT+ History Month in February, Newark had a visit by Holy Trinity School who helped to decorate the station forecourt.

March
Most of our staff complete their move to our new joint headquarters with Nottinghamshire Police.
Our new JHQ is located at Sherwood Lodge in Arnold.

April
John Buckley QFSM retired as Chief Fire Officer after 26 years of service in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
John was succeeded as our Chief Fire Officer by Craig Parkin.
May
We opened the brand-new Worksop Fire Station which can reuse up to 50% of its own energy.

June
Our Education Team delivered lots of Safety Zone events to local children, teaching them lifesaving skills and how to stay fire safe.

July
Over the heatwave period we deal with an exceptional number of incidents including a major grass fire in Blidworth with 15 fire appliances.
We attend 243 incidents over three days with a 312% increase in emergency calls to Joint Fire Control.

August
The Ranskill incident begins on Friday 5 August which would see us in the area firefighting for 35 days.

September
A group of our firefighters start their climb of Mount Toubkal on 7 September in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity.
They will raise over £12,000 and win a fundraising award at our awards evening.

October
We welcomed Tim and Barney, our new Fire Investigation dog and handler, to the Service.
They join Dave and Dexter as a fire investigation dog and handler.

November
We held our annual awards evening at the Albert Hall where we recognised our staff and members of the public.

December
The joint emergency services carol service takes place at Southwell Minster raising £644.31 for the Fire Fighters Charity.
