The ideal Firefighter to me, is somebody who will come and embrace the different challenges that we face within the Fire Service. We need people who are stong and fit but we need a range of people who can deliver different roles and to be part of a team.

Sonny Roberts - Crew Manager

I wanted a job that wasn't just about making money, but about making a difference to people's lives. The fire and rescue service gives me the opportunity to do this, every day. There is so much more to the job than just firefighting, I love the community side of the role - whether that be school visits, home safety checks or visiting care homes.

The best thing about being a Firefighter is helping people, whether this is within the community or at incidents, they all give me the constant learning experience. I have been doing this job for over 25 years and have loved every single day.

My favourite thing about being a Firefighter is probably the fact that no matter how big or small the activity is that you are doing, you are still a part of saving someone's life - that can be from fitting a smoke alarm to saving somebody from a burning building. No two days are the same, and that's why I love my job.
