In setting our long-term ambition, we have drawn insight from a range of sources.

Our starting point is the legislative framework which sets out the statutory duties for a fire and rescue service.

The Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004 details our duties to:

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 details our responsibility, as a category one responder, to work with other agencies and emergency services to assess risks and work together to plan and prepare for a range of emergencies.

The Regulatory Reform (RRO) (Fire Safety) Order 2005 details our role in promoting, educating and enforcing fire safety regulations in premises such as offices, factories, shops, hospitals, care homes, public and tall buildings.

In addition, the Fire and Rescue Service National Framework for England (2018) sets out the government’s priorities for fire and rescue authorities.
