Strategic goal 6
We will manage and invest in our Service to ensure it is fit for the future
This goal is focused on the work we do to ensure that the Service and its finances are well managed, that we deliver value for money, and that we invest prudently to deliver an outstanding service which is fit for purpose now and in the future.
Over the last year we have overseen improvements to the access, welfare and decontamination facilities across our estate and replaced the access control system used in our fire stations. We collaborated with Nottinghamshire Police to commission an environmental strategy which will inform our future plans in relation to carbon reduction. Investment in our buildings will continue over the next few years, including a new station to replace Stockhill and a substantial refurbishment of Arnold station.
As a publicly funded service, we are required to regularly retender contracts for systems and services, to ensure we obtain the best value for taxpayers’ money. We have strengthened our procurement and contract management capabilities over the last year, which will support projects over the next two to three years to retender a range of contracts including facilities management, fleet maintenance and several strategic computer systems.
In 2026-27 we will work towards the following objectives:
- Progress construction of the new fire station to replace Stockhill
- Complete other improvement works at Arnold, Highfields, Carlton, Eastwood, Hucknall and West Bridgford stations, and at our Service Development Centre
- Retender of several technology infrastructure contracts
- Begin requirements analysis in preparation for the retender of key computer systems
- Replace end-of-life equipment including fire hoods and fire ground radios
- Continue to replace end-of-life vehicles and equipment
- Strengthen our organisational and operational resilience through improvements in internal governance, business continuity and cyber security
