About Us

Based at the Service's Headquarters at Bestwood lodge Drive in Arnold, the Fire Control Room answers emergency calls and dispatches fire engines and other vehicles to incidents.

Our Control Room staff are trained in call handling to give fire survival guidance on the phone to callers, and receive similar training to that of firefighters in order to be able to give the best advice in the event of an emergency.

The structure of the Control Room mirrors that of a fire crew at one of our 24 stations across the county, and is made up of four watches with roles including Watch Managers and Crew Managers as well as Firefighters, which are referred to as 'Firefighter Control'.

The Control Room is also responsible for monitoring messages from crews while they are at incidents and log correspondence between the incident ground and control.
