Yes You Can! We're recruiting on-call firefighters at Ashfield and Retford Fire Stations

Are you able to serve your local community? If needed, would your family, friends and neighbours be able to count on you to offer help and support?

Applications are open for on-call firefighters to serve Retford and Ashfield Fire Stations.

An on-call firefighter is 'on call' to respond to a range of emergencies during a set time during the week. If you live within 5 minutes’ travel time of the station you can apply.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) offer the required training, extensive support and you can earn up to £5000 a year in retainer and call out fees in exchange for your time.

Your role would not just be to fight fires. As an on-call firefighter you would be involved in a wide range of situations which could include floods, road accidents, chemical spills to even retrieving pets from awkward situations.

Station Manager Craig Day says “I am proud to work for and support our local community. My station is currently recruiting for on-call firefighters at Ashfield fire station and if you have the right fitness, attitude and availability, I’d like for you to put yourself forward.

"If you have any questions we have an open day for you to pop down and you can see the firefighting equipment, talk to our staff and discover how you can be an on-call firefighter.

"You’ll be going about your usual routine until a call comes and then you’ll step into action as a professional firefighter, supporting your team as you respond to calls from around your local area.

"This isn’t an easy job, but it’s an important one. You’ll be supporting your local community, you’ll be part of a team and you’ll receive skills and training which mean you will be someone your loved ones can count on.”

To find out more, come down to one of our pop-in sessions at either Ashfield Fire Station on Wednesday 5 September from 7pm until 9pm or Retford on Saturday 15 September from 9.30am to midday.

Feel free to come along with your family to find out more. You’ll be able to see the fire engines, try on some equipment and ask our current firefighters any questions you may have!

No prior booking is required.
