Yes You Can! Service seeks new on-call firefighters in Retford and Ashfield as part of latest recruitment drive

Retford and Ashfield residents are the focus of a fresh Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) recruitment drive for on-call firefighters.

The latest recruitment window, which opened on Monday (26 March) as part of the Service's Yes You Can campaign, runs until Sunday 15 April. It comes three weeks after the Service opened a hugely popular, county-wide wholetime firefighter recruitment window.

All the Service's on-call stations will be on the lookout for new firefighters during the three-week period, however people from Retford and Ashfield are the specific focus of the campaign due to recent changes.

"If you've previously applied for these areas, but haven't got through due to your availability, then get in touch – as part of this campaign we're looking not only for day cover, but night cover too," said Nick Linthwaite, the Service's HR Manager.

"Equally, if you've never thought about joining the fire and rescue service before, but think you have the skills we're looking for, then I'd say get in touch, and apply, too.

"The Yes You Can campaign is about telling people that even though they may not realise, they may well have the skills needed to be a firefighter in a dynamic, modern day fire and rescue service.

"If you're a team player who would like to serve their community, in a challenging yet rewarding role, and you either live or work within a defined time period (usually five minutes' drive at normal road speed) of your local station, we want to hear from you!"

On-call firefighters are given the same high standard of training as wholetime firefighters, responding to their stations from home or a place of work when needed.

They attend a range of incidents, on top of fires, including road traffic collisions, animal rescues, flooding, water rescues and much more. This is in addition to continual training and regular education and prevention work in their local communities.
