Welcoming our new competent firefighters

Congratulations to the Wholetime 01/19 firefighters who have now successfully finished their Operational Firefighter Level 3 Apprenticeship.

They were our first cohort of apprentice firefighters starting in January 2019 and have now fully completed within their expected two-year development programme timescale by passing their End Point Assessment at SDC.

As well as working towards their Firefighter Apprenticeship, our first course of Apprentices undertook the Fire Fighter National Occupational Standards acquisition to fully demonstrate workplace competency. The final assessments took place in November and December 2020, with 10 distinctions being awarded by the external awarding body. These were awarded to the firefighters to mark strong performance in the theory exams, practical scenario assessments and professional discussions.

All apprentices have passed first time. This success was as a result of their dedication, commitment and professionalism throughout their development programme.

The Work Based Assessment team, the SDC trainers, the line manager assessors and the internal quality assurance practitioners have provided support in particularly challenging circumstances that has resulted from the Covid -19 pandemic.

A big thanks goes out to all involved in this great team achievement! And again, well done to the newly competent firefighters.
