Victoria Centre re-open following gas incident

20/11/2021

20 November - 17:00: The Victoria Centre is now re-open following a major incident. There have been no injuries. There is likely to continue to be traffic disruption around the city centre as it returns to normal.

We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding as we went about our work.

Thank you to our firefighters, Control room staff and partners for their work in resolving the incident.

20 November  - 15:50: Our crews and gas workers are continuing their work to make the area safe.

We can't give an indication at this time of when the cordon will be lifted but it is hoped that staff from businesses will be allowed back into the centre shortly.

Thank you for your patience as our crews go about their work.

20 November - 13:16: Crews are continuing their work and are being supported by the Command Support Unit and Environmental Protection Unit.

Area Manager Mick Sharman said: "We are likely to be on scene for a number of hours as we work to identify the leak and make the area safe.

"We are aware that people in the vicinity are asking why they cannot leave their flats. The Incident Commander has requested that people remain in their flats until instructed otherwise.

"We understand the frustration but it is for your safety and to allow our crews to bring this incident to a close as swiftly as we can."

20 November - 11:59: We have four appliances in attendance (London Road, Carlton, Stockhill) at Victoria Centre in Nottingham because of a suspected gas leak. People are being evacuated from the building and we ask people to avoid the area.
