Stephen Lawrence Day

Today (Thursday 22 April) is National Stephen Lawrence Day.

It commemorates Stephen’s life, and signifies the need to create a more inclusive society that treats everyone with fairness and respect where prejudice has no place. It is about the part we all play in creating a society in which everyone can flourish.

The day was introduced in 2019 and is observed annually.

In 2019, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service delivered a community focused event in collaboration with Nottinghamshire Police, raising awareness of its work. We look forward to holding future Stephen Lawrence day events after the pandemic, as part of the strong commitment to race equality.

As part of this commitment the service has produced videos and resources targeted at a range of communities and we continue to actively raise awareness of different cultures throughout the workforce.
