Celebrating International Control Room Week

20/10/2021

From 18-24 October 2021, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services will celebrate the work of its joint control room staff as part of International Control Room Week.

Our Control staff can deal with traumatic and stressful situations on a daily basis and both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services will be attempting to raise public awareness of their lifesaving and life-changing work by celebrating their staff throughout the week.

As part of the week, our control room staff undertake a challenge to raise money for charity. This year, they will be supporting Youth Homeless Charity and Marie Curie Cancer Research with the Great Control Bake Off.

Craig Parkin, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The staff in our Joint Control Room are the unseen force behind the work of our operational crews. They work extremely hard and are always there at people’s time of need.

“International Control Room Week gives us time to pause and celebrate the amazing people we have and the outstanding role they play in supporting all our communities.”

Rob Taylor, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said, “Last year’s overwhelming support demonstrates just how important it is to celebrate the amazing work of Control Room staff and why they should get the recognition they richly deserve.

“Members from across both Services have highlighted just how important Control is to ensuring operations run as smoothly as possible and it would be great for us to promote all of what we do to help raise awareness to the public.”
