High rise fire deemed accidental

On Saturday 24 July at 5:39am we were called to reports a fire in a high-rise block of flats.

At the height of the incident, we had eight appliances at the scene on Noel Street, Hyson Green.

Following a Fire Investigation, the cause has been deemed accidental. The cooker hob had been left on accidentally which caused the blaze on the 15th floor.

Station Manager, Chris Navin, said: “Although this was an accident, I want to remind people how important it is to stay vigilant in the kitchen.

“Once you have finished cooking, ensure that everything is switched off, and check again before going to bed or leaving the house.

“Firefighters did a fantastic job of extinguishing the fire as quickly as they could, and all staff showed great teamwork at the incident.”

We worked with our partners throughout the incident, including local authorities who set up a rest centre for evacuated residents.
