On 9 September crews from
Edwinstowe Fire Station carried out a routine Safe and Well Visit on Brake
View, Boughton however this was no normal safe and well.
Upon
arrival crews spoke with Hubert age 80 and his wife, Barbara about how they can
keep safe in their home and provided guidance on how to prevent fires and
potential accidents.
Whilst
speaking with Hubert, he suddenly felt unwell and collapsed during the visit.
Firefighters Mark Porter and Andrew Gill were quick to provide first aid
assistance and called East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).
Whilst
waiting for EMAS, Mark and Andrew continued to provided medical assistance and
Hubert was rushed to hospital following their arrival.
Station
Manager Gerry Williscroft said: "Our firefighters are all first aid
trained and ready to help at any given minute. I am so pleased to hear
Hubert is making a full recovery and thanks goes out to both Andrew and Mark
who responded with such quick timing and professionalism."
Hubert
Eley said: "If it wasn't for the crew I don't know what I would have
done. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service provided such a good service
and helped me in a time of need. I am very, very happy with the crew and
appreciate all that they do."
