Hucknall Fire Station are once again going above and beyond
for their local foodbank and community this Christmas.
Throughout lockdown they have continuously supported Under
One Roof foodbank by collecting, donating and delivering food parcels.
Crews have worked tirelessly going out of their way to give
back to the local community and are now donating to the foodbank and local
church.
Now Christmas is around the corner Hucknall firefighters put
together a campaign using social media to promote 12 days of donating this
Christmas. Starting with day one being a bag for life throughout the 12 days,
firefighters encouraged the community to donate one new item a day to go in
their bag.
After the 12 days were complete, crews set off to collect
donations at 150 different locations, from locals to schools to businesses
within Hucknall!
The donations were then taken back to station where they
were sorted into deliveries for the foodbank and Christmas hamper donations for
the local church. Firefighters from Hucknall collected around 350 donations for
both Under One Roof and Hucknall Baptise Church.
Crew Manager Marcus Pratt, who arranged the campaign, said:
“This has been snow joke… We are overwhelmed with the amount of support and
donations we have received from our local community.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the community for
giving back this Christmas, we know 2020 has been a tricky one but by giving
back we are supporting those within Hucknall who may be struggling this time of
year.
“I also want to say thanks the local foodbank and church for
what they do to give and keep on giving to the community of Hucknall. Everyone
from Hucknall Fire Station and the Service as a whole is extremely grateful to
charities like this, who work tirelessly through the pandemic and the festive
season.”
Willow, aged 7, has been taking part in the 12 day
collection said: “I have enjoyed going out each night and after school to get
bits and bobs for the donation. I also liked to put sweets in, as I like them
and others would like sweets too!”
Yvonne Campbell, Project Manager for Hucknall Foodbank Under
One Roof said: “The response from the people of Hucknall has been absolutely
amazing, Marcus and his fellow firefighters have done an unbelievable job to
organise and collect of so many donations!
“No one in Hucknall will go hungry this Christmas, our
deepest thanks to all those who donated and were involved.”
