An event to give more insight into the life of an on-call firefighter is set to take place at Ashfield Fire Station to get more people interested in joining #TeamNFRS.
The event, which will take place on Saturday 14 April, will give attendees the opportunity to meet the retained crew at Ashfield, have a go with some of the firefighting equipment that is used in the job, as well as getting some valuable insight into the interview process.
On-call firefighters, also known as retained firefighters, are part-time, and carry a pager with them which alerts them to emergencies.
They must live or work within five minutes (at normal road speeds) of their retained station and receive the same high standard of training as wholetime firefighters, responding from their place of work or home when needed.
The role will see you attend a range of incidents, and though you might think that firefighters only attend fires, you might be surprised to know that they also attend road traffic collisions, water rescues, animal rescues, and much more.
As an on-call firefighter you will also get involved in regular training and education and prevention work to help to create safer communities – think you've got what it takes? Why not come down to Ashfield Fire Station on Saturday 14 April and find out more!
Station Manager Craig Day is the District Manager in Ashfield and has organised the event. He said: "Joining NFRS as an on-call firefighter is an excellent opportunity to serve your community while gaining transferrable skills which can be taken back to your primary employment.
"We will be running the event to encourage people to come and ask their questions about the role and find out more about the training involved as well as the interview process, and it will be a valuable opportunity for you to find out about what to expect from applying.
"So, if you're a dynamic team player who wants to serve your community, then get in touch and find out more about how to apply, and we look forward to seeing you there!"
Anyone interested in attending the event should contact Station Manager Craig Day on email@example.com. Once you have registered your interest, you will be contacted confirming a time at which you can attend.
