Celebrating Nottinghamshire at annual ceremony

Firefighters who responded to an attack during an incident with professionalism and resilience, members of the public who rescued a man from his car during a Road Traffic Collision and Fire Stations going above and beyond for The Fire Fighters Charity are just some of the people who were awarded last month (24 November) for their achievements.

Awards ranging from prestigious Long Service and Good Conduct Medals for 20 years' meritorious service, to Chief Fire Officer's Commendations and Certificates of Recognition were presented as part of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's (NFRS) annual awards ceremony, returning to the Albert Hall in Nottingham.

Members of the public received the Chief Fire Officer's Commendation for their lifesaving actions in rescuing a driver from his car during a Road Traffic Collision on the A51 Gamston earlier this year. Others received Chief Fire Officer's Certificates of Recognition for their efforts, including Stockhill Green Watch for supporting a Firefighter who was attacked during an incident.

The ceremony saw the crew from Stapleford Fire Station being awarded the Chief Fire Officer's Fundraising Trophy and the Frank Swann Award for Outstanding Contribution to The Fire Fighters Charity. Not only did they raise over £3,000 for the charity, but they also hosted a Covid-19 safe Santa's drive thru grotto which brought smiles back to the community of Stapleford in a time of need.

Honorary Research Lead of The Fire Fighters Charity, Rowena Hill, presented John Buckley, Chief Fire Officer, with an award on behalf of the charity as a special thank you for going above and beyond for the charity during his time in the fire service.

It was great to be able to celebrate these achievements at our ceremony, especially after not being able to last year due to the pandemic.
