CFO to pedal his way to fundraising total

This year's Chief's Challenge is now underway, with the Service's Principal Officers hoping to pedal their way to a large fundraising total for The Fire Fighter's Charity.

The challenge this year will see Chief Fire Officer (CFO) John Buckley, Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Wayne Bowcock and Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Craig Parkin take part in a bike ride around the county, visiting each station area.

The 'Tour of Notts' will start from Eastwood on Saturday 7 October, visiting a total of seven stations, before finishing at SDC, with day two starting from Worksop and ending at Tuxford, visiting five stations along the way.

The second weekend of 14 and 15 October will start at Collingham before ending at Stapleford one day one, and the final day taking the trio from Highfields to Stockhill.

The ride will cover 152 miles in total, with crews from each station turning out to support fundraising efforts.

Each station has organised a collection at a local supermarket, with the group visiting each collection point on their way around the county.

The Chief's Challenge has been held annually for a number of years and aims to raise money for The Fire Fighter's Charity, which provides vital help and support to firefighters, both serving and retired, as well as their families.

Last year's 10K challenge saw John take part in a variety of events across the county, including hose running at Misterton, a treadmill challenge at Hucknall and Eastwood and sports day at HQ, and raising just over the £10K target.

Speaking of this year's challenge, CFO John Buckley said: "In 2016 we were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of everyone who took part and donated, helping us to reach just over our target of £10K, and this year I am pleased to announce that we will be once again coming together to raise money for a worthy cause.

"This year we will be getting on our bikes to ride around the county, and it is good to be able to do something a bit different to raise money for such a good cause, and if you would like to sponsor us, please visit my Just Giving Page."
