Become an on-call firefighter today

13/01/2020

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) have launched their recruitment campaign for on-call firefighters today (Monday 13 January).

The role of a firefighter is incredibly diverse - much more than many people may realise. On-call firefighters respond to emergency calls when required. The firefighters also run community events where advice is given to local people on how to stay safe - not only around fire safety but also water and road safety too. Crews deliver this extremely important advice and support by going into people’s homes, businesses and schools.

On-call firefighters come from every walk of life, including homemakers, shopkeepers, builders, farmers, office workers and directors of companies, together with people who are not currently employed.

Full training is provided on an ongoing basis, therefore previous experience is not needed. Emergency call outs could be two or three times a week, for a few hours at a time. The on-call hours are based around people’s availability and other commitments.

To be an on-call firefighter, you must: Have a strong desire to support the local community, be 18 years-old or over, have a reasonable level of personal fitness, live or/and work within 5 minutes of your local fire station.

Station manager Simon Glew said: "On-call firefighters are an essential part of our service and community. If you are passionate about working within the local community and eager to make Nottinghamshire safer this is the role for you.

“We are extremely keen to encourage anyone who has what it takes, to find out more about becoming an on-call firefighter."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting On-Call Firefighters who are able to provide availability when they have time during weekdays, nights and weekends. We are focusing on availability during daytime hours (08:00-18:00) in the following stations: Bingham, Collingham, Misterton, Retford, Southwell and Tuxford.
